CASE STUDY 04

Strategy at Scale

Aligning one of the most complex public sector stakeholder environments in the US across 12 structured sessions

ROLE

Primary Experience Designer & Lead Facilitator

INDUSTRY

Government & Public Sector

SCOPE

EY's Largest US Public Sector Engagement

METHODS

Multi-Session Design, Progressive Alignment

OVERVIEW

One of the most complex stakeholder environments in the public sector - a large government defense organization required alignment across 12 cross-functional sessions spanning multiple organizational boundaries, jurisdictions, and decision-making layers. Led as primary experience designer and facilitator for EY's largest US public sector engagement.

CHALLENGE

Government defense stakeholder environments operate with strict organizational protocols, distributed decision-making authority, and deeply entrenched functional boundaries. Getting meaningful alignment across multiple agencies, jurisdictions, and leadership layers is not a one-session challenge - it requires a carefully sequenced engagement strategy that builds trust and shared direction progressively over time.

A single misstep in session design, facilitation approach, or stakeholder sequencing could set the entire engagement back by months.

DESIGN PROCESS

01.

Engagement architecture design

Designed the full 12-session engagement arc from the ground up - determining sequencing, stakeholder groupings, and session objectives to build progressively toward broader alignment across the stakeholder network.

02.

Stakeholder mapping and discovery

Mapped the complex stakeholder landscape across organizational boundaries, identifying decision-making authority, competing priorities, and the sequencing needed to build trust before pushing for alignment.

03.

Session-by-session facilitation

Facilitated each of the 12 sessions with precision - adapting approach to the specific stakeholder group, organizational context, and stage of the engagement while maintaining continuity of purpose across all sessions.

04.

Cross-session synthesis

Synthesized outputs across all 12 sessions into coherent strategic themes - identifying convergent priorities, surfacing remaining gaps, and translating distributed inputs into a unified strategic direction.

05.

Strategic alignment delivery

Delivered a consolidated strategic alignment framework and opportunity pipeline that gave leadership clear visibility into priorities, sequencing, and the path forward across a highly complex organizational environment.
